Peoples of Series of Maps

The peoples of series of maps were put out by National Geographic in the seventies and eighties. This series of maps dealt with the peoples and cultures of several countries including Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Soviet Union, China, the Arctic and South Asia. These maps are rich in information on the history and diversity of the peoples of these regions.

1. The Peoples of Mainland Southeast Asia - March 1971 (37.5"x32.5")
Side A:
This side contains a huge physical map of mainland Southeast Asia including Viet Nam, Cambodia, Thailand and Burma. Along the outside are illustrations of the various peoples that inhabit these countries with short descriptions. Marked on the map are the locations of where these peoples are located. There are also inset maps titled Early Man in Southeast Asia and Historic Kingdoms and Colonies and a color key to the ethnic groups. A fine addition to the peoples of series of maps.

2. Asia map - March 1971 (37.5"x32.5")
Side B:
This side has a beautiful political map of Asia. It includes an inset map of Indonesia, New Guinea and Bismarck Archipelago.

3. The Peoples of Africa - December 1971 (28"x22.5")
Side A:
This side has a physical map of Africa and along the outside are illustrations and notes on the different peoples who inhabit this continent. There is an inset map titled Peoples and Languages: A Key to this Map.

4. Heritage of Africa - December 1971 (28"x22.5")
Side B:
A huge physical map covers most of this side color coded to show the varied landscapes of this continent. Around the outside of the map there are illustrations of several artifacts produced by the early peoples plus write-ups on the history of how this continent was populated. There is an inset map showing the states and kingdoms of the African past.

5. Peoples of the Middle East - July 1972 (35.5"x22.5")
Side A:
You will find a huge physical map of the Middle East including Libya, Egypt, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran and Afghanistan. Along the outside are illustrations and write-ups on the diverse peoples who inhabit these regions. There is an inset map titled An Awesome Human Mosaic.

6. A Cultural Map of the Middle East - July 1972 (35.5"x22.5")
Side B:
This side is filled with physical map insets and write-ups on the cultures of the Middle East. The write-ups have titles like Where water sets the pace, Those who plant, Those who roam, Cities the magnets, New look for woman, The impact of Islam, The rush for black gold, Politics of today and Ebb and flow of empires. This is another fine addition to the peoples of series of maps.

7. Peoples of the Soviet Union - February 1976 (37"x23")
Side A:
This side has a beautiful map of the Soviet Union color coded to show where the different peoples inhabit these regions. Along the outside are illustrations and write-ups on the different peoples of this continent.

8. Soviet Union - February 1976 (37"x23")
Side B:
A beautiful political map of the Soviet Union occupies this side. On the bottom is a chart showing the Administrative Units of the Soviet Union.

9. The Peoples of China - July 1980 (37.5"x30")
Side A:
This side contains a colorful physical map of China color coded to show the locations of the different Ethno-linguistic groups in China. Along the outside are several illustrations and write-ups showing the different peoples of this continent. Another fine addition to the peoples of series of maps put out by National Geographic.

10. The Peoples Republic of China - July 1980 (37.5"x30")
Side B:
This side has a huge political map of the People's Republic of China.

11. Peoples of the Arctic - February 1983 (29.5"x23")
Side A:
This side has a physical map of the Arctic Ocean along with the countries bordering it. Along the outside are beautiful illustrations and write-ups of the peoples who inhabit these regions.

12. Arctic Ocean map - February 1983 (29.5"x23")
Side B:
A beautiful political map of the Arctic Ocean and surrounding countries occupy this side of the map. There are several notes which talk about the history and geography of this region.

13. Peoples of South Asia - December 1984 (28"x22.5")
Side A:
This side has a physical map of South Asia color coded to show the ethnolinguistic groups that inhabit this region. Around the outside are illustrations and write-ups on the different peoples of these regions.

14. South Asia with Afghanistan and Myanmar - December 1984 (28"x22.5")
Side B:
This side contains a beautiful political map of South Asia with Afghanistan and Burma.
