Mediterranean maps
Several Mediterranean maps were produced by National Geographic. This region is rich in history with the Greek, Roman and Phoencian civilizations. This rich history is seen in the maps National Geographic brought out of this area. Included is a fine physical relief map of the sea floor.
Below is a list of the maps of this area put out by National Geographic, in order of the earliest date up to the present. Click on Map Titles that are Links to see a Picture of that map.

1. Countries Borbering the Mediterranean Sea - January 1912 (19"x11.5") This is a colorful political map of the region printed prior to the first Balkan War.
2. Europe and the Mediterranean - April 1938 (38"x34") This is a political map with English names for countries along with their names in the national language. It includes an inset relief map with airways.
3. Central Europe and the Mediterranean - October 1939 (37"x27.5") This political map shows the international boundaries as of September 1, 1939. A great historical map.

4. Classical Lands of the Mediterranean - March 1940 (35"x25.5") This is a great historical map with lots of notes and detailed inset maps of ancient Athens, ancient Rome and the Roman Empire at is peak. It includes Greek mythological characters and their Roman equivalents.
5. Classical Lands of the Mediterranean - December 1949 (32"x22") This map came out just after a bitter civil war in Greece. This Mediterranean map is rich in historic information of the Greek, Roman and Phoencian civilizations. It has inset maps of ancient Athens and ancient Rome, along with text on the worlds of Homer, Herodotus and Strabo.
6. Lands of the Eastern Mediterranean map - January 1959 (25"x19") This is a beautiful political map of the region as it was at this time. It contains inset maps of Israel and Lebanon, the Suez Canal and the area around Jerusalem.

7. Historic Mediterranean, 800 BC to AD 1500 Map - December 1982 (37"x22.5") Side A: This map contains a wealth of information on the history of the civilizations who inhabited the region from 800 BC to AD 1500. It includes five inset maps illustrating the Phoenician, Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic periods of history.
8. Mediterranean Seafloor map - December 1982 (37"x22.5") Side B: This is a beautiful physical relief map of the seafloor of this region. It details abyssal plains, troughs, valleys, basins and countless sea mounts.
