Maps of the USA States
This page list maps of the USA States produced by National Geographic from as early as 1891 up to the present time. A large number of the maps are on Alaska, along with many maps on California and Hawaii. Also included are maps on Louisiana, Florida, Illinois and New Hampshire. You can also find maps on individual states such as Florida or Hawaii on the Close-up USA and Making of America pages on this web site.

Maps of the USA States: Alaska

1. Alaska - May 1891 (12"x10") This is an antique sketch map of Alaska showing Islands, rivers, boundaries with Juneau and Sitka noted.
2. Muir Glacier, Alaska - March 1892 (19"x17") This is an antique map of the Muir Glacier, located in Glacier National Park and Preserve in southeastern Alaska. This Glacier was surveyed by Harry Fielding Reid in 1890.
3. Map Showing Award of Alaska Boundary Tribunal 1896 - January 1904 (13"x13") This map depicts the boundary between the Alaskan Panhandle and British Columbia as finally decided by a tribunal of U.S., Canadian and British officials in 1903.
4. Gold and Coal Fields of Alaska - April 1898 (30.5"x25") This map appeared during the famous Klondike Gold Rush and also includes Canada's Klondike region and much of the Yukon Territory. It includes insets of the trails from Tide Water to the Headwaters of the Yukon river and the Klondike Gold region. A good addition to the maps of the USA States.
5. Alaska - May 1904 (49.5"x36") This is a historical map of Alaska put out after the boundary was agreed to with Canada. It includes an inset map of the continuation of the Aleutian Islands and an inset of the areas mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey.
6. Alaska - February 1914 (21.5"x16") This detailed map shows the growing human population to the region. It shows telegraph stations, post offices, telegraph and cable lines, mission stations, U.S. public schools for natives, military reservations, Northwest Mounted Police stations, mines and lighthouses. It has an inset map of the western extension of the Aleutian Islands.
7. Alaska - June 1956 (35"x29") This detailed map was published the same year Alaska ratified its constitution. It has an inset of Alaska's Inside Passage and the Bearing Sea and inset maps of the Diomede Islands and the continuation of the Aleutian Islands.
8. State of Alaska - July 1959 (25"x19") This beautiful detailed map was published six months after Alaska became the 49th state. It has an inset showing vegetation and land use along with inset maps of the Diomede Islands and the continuation of the Aleutian Islands.
9. Alaska map - May 1994 (37"x22") Side A: This is a beautiful political map showing the whole state of Alaska from the tip of the panhandle to the outermost Aleutian Island. It includes an inset map showing Alaska's natural resources.
10. Alaska map - May 1994 (37"x22") Side B: This side has a physical map of Alaska containing information on federal lands, wildlife and the Alaskan natives. It contains an inset map of Federal lands, a map showing native language groups and detailed illustrations of the Prince William Sound, the Chugach mountains and the Copper River delta and Bering Glacier. A beautiful addition to the maps of the USA States.
Maps of the USA States: California

1. California with Descriptive Notes - June 1954 (37"x29") This is a beautiful map of California filled with descriptive notes on the history and points of interest of this state. It includes inset maps of Los Angles, San Francisco, San Francisco Bay region, San Diego and the Yosemite Valley with the Yosemite National Park.
2. Northern California - May 1966 (20"x15") Side A: This is a beautiful map of northern California showing state and historic parks, national wildlife refuges, ranger stations, redwood groves, camp sites, ski areas and golf courses. It includes inset maps of San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Region, the Northern Redwood Corridor, Yosemite Valley and the Humboldt Redwoods.
3. Southern California - May 1966 (20"x15") Side B: This side also has a beautiful map this time of southern California filled with useful information. It included inset maps of Los Angeles and San Diego, and of the General Grant Grove and the Giant Forest.
4. California map - July 1993 (31"x10") Side A: Beautiful map for the vacationer to this state filled with notes and information on major sites of interest. It shows an abundance of parks, forests, beaches, wildlife refuges, ski areas and more.
5. Coastal California - July 1993 (31"x10") Side B: This is a beautiful map of the California coastline highlighting the sites and activities to be found here. It includes inset maps with information on the San Francisco Bay area, Monterey, Los Angeles and San Diego. It has beautiful illustrations of popular tourist sites. A beautiful addition to the maps of the USA States.
Maps of the USA States: Hawaii

1. Hawaii - July 1960 (25"x19") This is a large detailed map of the whole state of Hawaii plus a map of the principal islands, produced less than a year after it became the 50th state. It includes an inset map of Midway Islands and an inset of the whole Fifty United States.
2. Hawaii - September 1995 (31"x20") Side A: This is a beautiful physical map of Hawaii with a stunning ocean-floor relief. It has an inset of the state of Hawaii which includes ocean bathymetry and currents.
3. Rediscovering Hawaii - September 1995 (31"x20") Side B: This also has a stunning physical map of Hawaii which includes facts about the formation and history of the islands, along with information on its ethnic and cultural diversity. It includes maps and information on the Haleakala Crater, the Kauai State Parks, the Kilauea Caldera, Honolulu and Lahaina. A great addition to the maps of the USA States.
Maps of the USA States: More state maps

1. Florida - January 1930 (13"x12.5") Here is an early political style map of Florida. It includes inset maps of Jacksonville to St. Augustine, West Palm Beach to Miami, Pensacola Bay and Tampa Bay.
2. Louisiana - April 1930 (13"x13") This is a beautiful early map of Louisiana showing cities, towns, railroads, highways and canals. It has an inset map of New Orleans.
3. Illinois - May 1931 (18.5"x12") This is an early map of Illinois published the same year Chicago's gangster Al Capone was sentenced to prison for tax evasion. It includes an inset map of the city of Chicago.
4. White Mountains of New Hampshire - July 1937 (20"x17") This map of New Hampshire shows many scenic points of interest and outdoor activities to be found in this scenic region. It has sketches of points of interest by Margaret B. Austin and a location map inset.
