Maps of Australia and Surrounding Islands
This page contains maps of Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania and a large number of other islands in the Southern, Indian and Pacific Oceans. National Geographic produced several maps showing the history, geography, climate, wildlife and economics of this region.
The maps listed below start with the earliest map put out by National Geographic up to the present time. Click on Map Titles that are Links for a Picture of that map.

1. Indian Ocean including Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia - March 1941 (32"x24") This is a political map of the Indian Ocean and the countries bordering it. It has lots of info including typical storm tracks, naval bases and historical notes. It contains inset maps of Guam, Hong Kong, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore and the Suez Canal.
2. Australia - March 1948 (31.5"x25") This is the first map of Australia produced by National Geographic, made shortly after World War 2. It has inset maps of Sydney, Melbourne and the Island of Tasmania.
3. New Zealand, New Guinea and the Principal Pacific Islands - April 1962 (25"x19") Side A: This map has two large maps of New Zealand and New Guinea, along with at least forty-five inset maps of other islands.
4. Pacific Ocean - April 1962 (25"x19") Side B: This is a political map of the Pacific Ocean and the landmasses surrounding it, including Australia, New Zealand and surrounding islands. It has inset maps of the Mariana Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Caroline Islands, the Hawaiian Islands, the Society Islands and the Tuamotu Archipelago. This is a great addition to the maps of Australia put out by National Geographic.
5. Australia - September, 1963 (25"x19") This is a detailed political map of Australia with detailed borders. Included are many insets of Tasmania, select cities and other regions of the country.

6. Discoverers of the Pacific - December 1974 (37"X22.5") Side A: This is an educational map with lots of information and illustrations on the Pacific Islanders and their shipbuilding and navigation techniques.
7. Islands of the Pacific - December 1974 (37"x22.5") Side B: This is a detailed map of the Pacific with historical notes, currents, prevailing winds, political administration and more.
8. Australia: Land of Living Fossils - February 1979 (29"x22.5") Side A: This is a beautiful physical relief map of Australia with lots of information and illustrations introducing its unique wildlife. This is a great addition to the maps of Australia put out by National Geographic.
9. Australia map - February 1979 (29"x22.5") Side B: This is a great political map of Australia loaded with place names, roads and railroads, Aboriginal land borders and more.

10. Traveler's Look at Australia - February 1988 (27"x20") Side A: This is a beautiful physical map of Australia with a wealth of information about the history, climate and tourist activities of the continent.
11. Australia Continental Odyssey - February 1988 (27"x20") Side B: This is a computer-enhanced satellite image showing Australia's physical features and vegetation. It has inset maps showing Australia's growth and movement from 125 million years ago to the present.
12. Asia-Pacific - November 1989 (25"x19") Side A: This is a fantastic political map of the region with sharply defined boarders. It contains an inset map with a continuation of the main map.
13. Economic Engine: Western Pacific Rim - November 1989 (25"x19") Side B: This side has a physical map of the Western Pacific Rim showing economic information of the major countries of the region. The map includes lots of info and notes on the economics of the region.

14. Australia Under Siege - July 2000 (31"x20") Side A: This map contains two beautiful physical maps of Australia, one showing Australia 200 years ago and one of Australia today. It is filled with informative notes and inset maps on the physical Environment, Felling the Forest, A Feral Infestation, Fire Hazards, Overgrazing and Mining Matters.
15. Australia - July 2000 (31"x20") Side B: This is a fantastic political map of Australia. It has inset maps on Tasmania, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide.
