Map Sets Produced by National Geographic

This page shows the Map Sets put out by National Geographic over the years. The sets I have introduced on this page include Close-up USA, Close-up Canada, the Making of USA, the Making of Canada, the Millennium in Maps, Great Peoples of the Past, the Travelers Map set and a set I call the Peoples of series. You will find these maps rich in information and filled with notes and illustrations covering everything from the history of the area to geographical information, early civilizations, different cultures and info on points of interest throughout this world.
Close-up USA
Starting with the first map put out in March of 1973, National Geographic produced fifteen maps for the Close-up USA map set. These maps would definitely be of interest to people traveling throughout the United States on vacations. The maps cover fifteen different regions of the USA and are filled with notes and illustrations covering the history, geography and points of interest for the traveler to each region. Close-up Canada
Starting with the first map in March of 1975, National Geographic started producing the Close-up Canada map set. This first map titled 'Close-up Canada: Maine with the Maritime Provinces' is also included in the Close-up USA set. This set includes maps of Canada broken into five regions and would definitely be of interest to the traveler driving across Canada who likes to take the time to stop and look at places of interest along his way. They are filled on both sides with notes and illustrations showing the history, geography and points of interest throughout each region. Making of America
In November of 1982 National Geographic started putting out the Making of America map set, eventually producing seventeen maps. This set is filled with information on the history of each region and the people that lived there. You will find lots of notes and illustrations on both sides of the map, a must have for the history buff. Click on this link: Making of America

Making of Canada
National Geographic put out the first of the Making of Canada map set in March of 1991 with the map 'Making of Canada: Quebec'. They produced six maps for this set, and as in the Making of America set is rich in information on the history and peoples of each region. You will find both sides of the map filled with notes and illustrations, something National Geographic is world famous for. For a list of the maps in this set go to this link: Making

Great Peoples of the Past
In December 1996 National Geographic introduced the first map in the Great Peoples of the Past map set with 'Great Peoples of the Past: The Mongols'. This set of maps dealt with several early civilizations in our history, the Mongols, the Mesoamericans, the Romans, the Greeks, the Egyptians and the Inca. Your will find these maps filled with information on these great civilizations. One side usually has a beautiful physical map of the region loaded with notes and illustrations. Millennium in Maps
This is a fantastic map set put out by National Geographic which deals with the physical earth, along with population and resources, cultures, biodiversity, exploration and the Universe and Milky Way. Each map will contain beautiful physical maps with lots of notes and information and fantastic illustrations as only National Geographic can produce as far as I am concerned. Peoples of Series
This map set put out by National Geographic I have called the Peoples of Series. These maps deal with different cultures and their histories from several regions throughout the world. The first map in this set came out in March of 1971 and was titled 'The Peoples of Mainland Southeast Asia'. One side of these maps will be a political map of the region, while the other side will be a beautiful physical map filled with notes and illustrations of the peoples that called this place home. Travelers Map Series
Starting back in June of 1970, National Geographic started putting out what I call the Travelers Map Series with the map 'Travelers Map of Italy'. Since then they have put out eleven maps in this set. Each map in the set has a political map of the country showing the roads and highways on one side, while the other side has a physical map filled with notes and illustrations showing historic landmarks, national parks, points of interest and lots more.
