This page contains the Making of Canada maps put out by National Geographic from 1991 to 1997. These maps will be principally for the history buffs out there, for they are filled with information on the history of these regions from the earliest exploration right up to the present time. Much can be found about these regions from these maps. Not only do they have a lot of historical information but also lots of present day info.

The maps below are listed from the earliest map to the present.

1. Making of Canada: Quebec - March 1991 (27"x20")
Side A:
This side is filled with historical info on this region of Canada. It starts with a historical intro with illustrations. The rest of the map is filled with inset maps and write-ups on Quebec during different times in its history. Starting with 1750: European Empires on Native American land, then 1608-1760: Settling a French colony, 1760-1850: French Society, British rule, 1850-1950: Coming to Maturity and 1950-Present: Modern Quebec.

2. Quebec - March 1991 (27"x20")
Side B:
This side has a beautiful physical map of Quebec giving a great representation of the St. Lawrence River. It is filled with historical notes on several spots in the region. It includes an inset map showing provincial boundaries during different times in Quebec's history.

3. Making of Canada: British Columbia - April 1992 (27"x20")
Side A:
This map has an introductory write-up on the history of British Columbia. The rest of the map is filled with map insets and write-ups of British Columbia during different periods of its history. It starts with 1775: Native life, then 1774-1845: Exploring the Northwest, 1846-1940: Resources, Rails and Settlement and 1941-Present: British Columbia today.

4. British Columbia - April 1992 (27"x20")
Side B:
This is a great detailed map of British Columbia. It has a large number of national and provincial parks and reservations marked on the map, showing the abundance of natural resources and native cultures that reside here. The map is filled with an wealth of historical notes. It includes an inset map of Southern Vancouver Island.

5. Making of Canada: Atlantic Canada - October 1993 <27"x20.5")
Side A:
This map also begins with an introductory write-up of this regions history with illustrations. The rest of the map has map insets and write-ups of this region during different times in its history. It starts with 986-1607: Exploration and Exploitation, 1608-1783: The Fight for Control, 1784-1867: Trading with Titans, 1868-1938: Taking care of Business, 1939-Present: Former Glory, Future Prospects, Fishing for Tourists and The Brawn Drain.

> 6. Atlantic Canada - October 1993 (27"x20.5")
Side B:
This side has a fantastic detailed map of this region, which I know well for this is the place I lived all my life, Atlantic Canada. This is the perfect summer vacation place with its quaint harbors and fishing villages, the friendly people and vibrant music (been to many Bluegrass festivals here myself.) This map also has lots of historical notes throughout it.

7. Making of Canada: Prairie Provinces - December 1994 (27"x20.5") Side A: This map has a historical intro with illustrations along with inset maps and write-ups of this region during different times in its history. It starts with 1500-1760: Indians and the Fur Trade, 1760-1870: European Competitors, 1870-1914: Steel Rails and Settlers, 1914-Present: Wheat, Wheat, and More Wheat and Prairie Bounty.

8. Prairie Provinces - December 1994 (27"x20.5") Side B: This is a detailed map of the Prairie Provinces showing National and Provincial parks, Indian reserves and wildlife areas. It has several historical notes spaced throughout the whole map.

9. Making of Canada: Ontario - June 1996 (27"x20.5")
Side A:
This side has a introductory write-up of the history of this region, along with notes and inset maps of the region during different periods of time. It begins with To 1600: First Presence, First Peoples, 1600_1790: New Arrivals, New Alliances, 1790-1867: Migration, Expansion, 1867-1940: Great Transformations and 1940-Present: Powerhouse of Canada.

10. Ontario - June 1996 ( 27"x20.5")
Side B:
This side has a beautiful detailed map of Ontario. It shows National parks, provincial parks, Indian reserves and wildlife areas. It is filled with historical notes of the area.

11. Making of Canada: The North - September 1997 (27"x20.5")
Side A:
This side begins with a historic intro to this region with illustrations. The rest of the map contains inset maps and write-ups of the region during different periods of time. These include To 1576: Arrival of the First Peoples, 1576-1870: Exploration and the Fur Trade, 1870-1939: Canada's Northward Expansion and 1939 to Present: The Modern North: Roads, Radar Stations, and the End of Isolation.

12. Yukon and Northwest Territories - September 1997 (27"x20.5")
Side B:
This is a beautiful map of Canada's North including the Northwest Territories, Yukon, with the District of Franklin, Parry Island, Queen Elizabeth Islands, Ellesmere Island and part of Greenland. It has many historical notes written at places of interest.
