The Caribbean maps below were produced by National Geographic from as early as 1905. They are rich with information of these regions, including its geography and history with the early peoples that lived here and the explorers from Europe who found them.

I have divided them into five subcategories - Mexico, Central America, the West Indies, Caribbean Regions and Early Peoples.

Caribbean maps: Mexico

Costa-Maya-Mexico



1. Mexico map - May 1911 (25"x17") This first map of Mexico put out by National Geographic was created by Scottish Cartographer and Geographer John George Bartholomew.

2. Mexico map - May 1914 (25"x17") This is a great political map of Mexico showing the expansion of the highways and railroads taking place.

3. Mexico map - July 1916 (30"x21") This physical map of Mexico has distinctive muted earth tones and contains a detailed inset map of the central portion of Mexico.

4. Mexico - May 1973 (34"x23")
Side A:
This is a political map of Mexico showing towns and cities, geographical features and transportation systems. The other side of this map is listed below.

5. Mexico map - September 1994 (30"x20")
Side A:
This is a political map of Mexico featuring the locations of national parks and a striking ocean bathymetry.

6. Travelers Map of Mexico - September 1994 (30"x20")
Side B:
This is a beautiful travelers map of Mexico, which has an introduction to the diverse landscape, and filled with notes on sites of interest and activities to be found here. It contains inset maps of Baja California, Mexico City, the Yucatan Peninsula and the Copper Canyon. A great addition to the Caribbean maps put out by National Geographic.

Caribbean maps: Central America

Arenal-Volcano-Costa-Rica



1. Map Showing the Location of the Panama Canal 1899-1902 - October 1905 (34.5"x26") This map shows the location of the Panama Canal as recommended by the Isthmian Canal Articles. It contains a profile of the canal along with railroads, river diversions, cities, towns and locks.

2. Birds Eye View of the Panama Canal - February 1912 (18.5"x9.5") This is a stunning relief-map-painting illustrating the panama railroad, locks, breakwater and other details of the region. This historic map is a fine addition to the Caribbean maps made by National Geographic.

3. Central America, Cuba, Porto Rico and the Islands of the Caribbean Sea - February 1913 (23"x16.5") This political map features ocean bathymetry and colorful country borders. It includes an inset map of the Panama Canal with a cross section of the canal elevation.

4. Central America - May 1973 (34"x23")
Side B:
Here is a beautiful political map of Central America featuring towns and cities, geographical features and transportation systems.

5. Central America - April 1986 (31.5"x20")
Side A:
Here is a beautiful map of Central America with a unique overview of each country including size, population, religion, language, literacy, life expectancy, economy and more.

6. Central America: Past and Present - April 1986 (31.5"x20")
Side B:
This educational map features six individual maps highlighting the history of the region and includes colorful illustrations of historical figures, artifacts and wildlife. A geographical and historical overview is included. Another great addition to the Caribbean maps collection.

Caribbean maps: West Indies

Bay-in-Antigua



1. West Indies map - March 1954 (37"x29") This colorful map of the West Indies contains thirty inset maps of Islands, the Panama Canal zone and the Florida Keys.

2. West Indies map - December 1962 (25"x19") This colorful and detailed map of the West Indies has inset maps of over two dozen islands as well as ocean bathymetry, currents and prevailing winds.

3. Tourist Islands of the West Indies - February 1981 (33.5"x22.5")
Side A:
This map highlights the unique tourist destinations that can be found in this region. It contains maps of over thirty islands with information about the history, geography and tourist activities to be found on these islands.

4. West Indies and Central America - February 1981 (33.5"x22.5")
Side B:
This political map was published during a time of political unrest in Haiti and Grenada, and economic difficulties in Jamaica.

5. Making of America: The West Indies - November 1987 (27"x20.5") Side A: This side is filled with information and illustrations on the history of this culturally diverse region. It contains a historical introduction and individual maps and information on the region during different times in history from the 1400's to the present time. A great addition to the Caribbean maps collection put out by National Geographic.

Side B:
This is a beautiful political map of the West Indies filled with an abundance of historical notes.

7. A Traveler's Map of the West Indies - March 2003 (31"x20")
Side A:
This side has a detailed physical map of the West Indies filled with notes on the history and geography of this region. It includes twenty inset physical maps of different Islands including information on each of these islands.

8. West Indies - March 2003 (31"x20")
Side B:
Here is a political map of the West Indies with notes on its geography. It has inset street maps of Nassau, Old San Juan, Charlotte Amalie, George Town and Havana.

Caribbean maps: Caribbean Regions

Grand-Cayman-Island



1. Cuba - October 1906 (28"x13.5")
Side A:
This historical political map was produced during the time disputed elections in Cuba led to armed revolt and intervention by the United States.

2. Cuba - October 1906 (28"x13.5")
Side B:
This is the second side of the map of Cuba reproduced from its original cartography.

3. Countries of the Caribbean - February 1922 (44"x25") This beautiful map includes Central America, the West Indies and Mexico. It uses color variations to show elevations of land and depths of the ocean. It includes inset maps of Guantanamo Bay, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the Panama Canal.

4. Mexico, Central America and the West Indies - December 1934 (40"x24") This is a political map which includes inset maps of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, the Bermuda Islands, Jamaica, Cuba and the Isthmus of Panama.

5. Mexico, Central America and the West Indies - December 1939 (41.5"x25") This map contains a wealth of historical information including the dates of the founding of many cities, the explorers who named them, Aztec and Maya sites and more. It contains inset maps of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Saint Thomas, the Bermuda Islands, Jamaica and Cuba.

6. Countries of the Caribbean - October 1947 (41"x25") This is a political map of the Caribbean with inset maps of ten of the most prominent Islands and the Panama Canal region.

7. Mexico and Central America - March 1953 (37"x27") This is a political map unique in that it combines Mexico and Central America. It shows the expansion of transportation in the region at this time. It has a detailed inset of the Panama Canal zone.

8. Mexico and Central America - October 1961 (25"x19") This is a political map published the same month hurricane Hattie struck the coast of British Honduras and nearly destroyed Belize City. It has inset maps of the Panama Canal zone, Guadalupe Island and the Revilla Gigedo Islands.

9. West Indies and Central America - January 1970 (38"x26.5") This is a beautiful detailed political map of the West Indies and Central America unique in that it shows the splashdown points of various space missions. It includes inset maps of over thirty islands, four cities and the Panama Canal. A great addition to the Caribbean maps collection.

10. Mexico and Central America - December 1980 (25.5"x20")
Side A:
This is a beautiful political map of Mexico and Central America. It contains insets of Southern Central America, Guadalupe Island and the Revillagigedo Islands. The other side is titled A Visitors Guide to the Aztec World and is show in the next section below.

11. Mexico & Central America - June 2007 (31"x20")
Side A:
A large portion of the side is covered with a political map of Mexico and most of Central America, the rest of Central America is cleverly continued on the bottom left of the main map. Located on the map are divided highways, other roads, canals, ferries, International Airports, archaeological sites, the national capital and state capitals. There are insets on the Olmec, Maya and Aztec cultures, and an inset filled with information on Mexico and Central American countries.

12. Mexico & Central America: The Dividing Link - June 2007 (31"x20")
Side B:
This side has a huge physical map of Mexico and Central America color coded with relief shading to show evergreen forest, deciduous forest, woodland, grassland, cropland, shrubland, bare ground, roads and population. You will find notes all around this map supplying information on different locations of this landscape and coastline. On the right side  are three insets showing the birth of a land bridge between North America and South America.

Caribbean maps: Early Peoples

1. A Visitors Guide to the Aztec World - December 1980 (25.5"x20")
Side B:
This is a beautiful map containing a wealth of information about archaeological sites of the Aztecs. It has a detailed map of Mexico City showing points of interest such as Metro stations, Public buildings, Hospitals, Shopping areas and Archaeological sites within the city. Also included is an inset map showing the extent of the Aztec world.

2. Archaeological Map of Middle America: Land of the Feathered Serpent - October 1968 (25"x19")
Side A:
This educational map is filled with information on the intriguing civilizations of Middle America and the temples, pyramids and ruins they left behind. It contains inset maps of the archaeological sites Chichen Itza, Monte Alban, Teotihuacan and Tikal.

3. Archaeological Map of Middle America - October 1968 (25"x19")
Side B:
This side contains a wealth of information on the Aztec and Maya civilizations that inhabited this region. It contains an index for side A. It includes an inset map of the Valley of Mexico in 1519 and a timeline showing artifacts of the pre-classic, classic and post-classic eras.

4. Threading the Islands - November 1986 (20.5"x14.5")
Side A:
This map explores two possible routes of Columbus and possible landing sites. It has an introduction explaining both the Morisson and Judge Tracks and an inset map of the Samana Cay possible landing point.

5. Where did Columbus Discover America? - November 1986 (20.5"x14.5")
Side B:
This map presents a new answer to the centuries-old question of where Columbus first landed. It has a map detailing Columbus's track as charted by Luis and Ethel Marden. It includes an illustration of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria sailing off to the new world. A great addition to the Caribbean maps collection made by National Geographic.

6. Ancient Maya World - October 1989 (27"x20")
Side A:
This map allows you to explore the fascinating world of the Maya. It has an abundance of information about trade, travel and the landscape of this civilization, including an explanation of the various eras of Maya history.

7. Land of the Maya - October 1989 (27"x20")
Side B:
This side has an abundance of historical notes about Mayan cities and their locations. It shows national parks and other preserved areas where you can explore the remains of this civilization. It contains a small physical map of the region.

8. Great Peoples of the Past: The Mesoamericans - December 1997 (35"x22")
Side A:
This side contains a beautiful panoramic view of the city-state of Palenque. It includes a small write-up of this place. On the bottom are two timelines with lots of notes and illustrations showing the evolutions and decline of the many Mesoamerican societies from 2000 BC to AD 1600.

9. Ancient Mesoamerica - December 1997 (35"x22")
Side B:
This side has a detailed map of Mesoamerica filled with historical notes and illustrations. It includes four inset maps, one a physical map of Central America and the other three showing Central America during the pre-classic, classic, post-classic times.
